FARAH/ BADGHIS: A militant and a policeman were killed and an insurgent injured in separate incidents in western Farah and Badghis provinces on Tuesday.
The police was on his way to Balamarghab district to receive his salary, an official said on condition of anonymity.
A tribal elder from the area, Ghulam Jilani, said: “The policeman’s body has been taken by residents to the district centre.” Separately, one fighter was killed and another injured in western Farah province, said Col. Mohammad Ghaus Malyar, a police officer.

ISLAMABAD: Four people were killed in a drone strike in Pakistan border, an official said on Tuesday.
The people were killed when the unnamed aircraft struck a vehicle and a house in the Mir Ali area at around 8pm on Monday, local official Daftar Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News. Four people, whose identities were not disclosed, perished in the attack, Khan added.
The incident occurred in the Nurang area, Tribal elder Ajmal Wazir said, claiming the victims were all local residents.
SO far this year, the CIA-operated drones carried out 74 assaults on North and South Waziristan, inflicting casualties on Haqqanis, Al Qaeda and local rebels in addition to civilians.

KABUL: Eleven insurgents were killed, two wounded and 29 others detained during joint operations over the past 24 hours in different provinces, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Tuesday.
The operations were conducted by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) personnel in Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Khost, Paktia and Paktika provinces, a statement from the ministry said.
Seven AK-47 assault rifles, four different types of weapons, a machine gun, 34 kilograms of explosives, 780 kilograms of opium, 47 magazines, 18 anti-vehicle mines, 100 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, seven rockets, 11 kilograms of hashish and hundreds of bullets were seized.
In western Farah province, an armed insurgent was killed in Bala Baluk district, where militants stormed a police check-post. One AK-47 assault rifle and a motorbike were recovered from the guerrillas.

KABUL: Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) soldiers were killed in an improvised explosive device attack in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the alliance said.
The deaths were announced in a brief statement from the NATO-led force that neither revealed the servicemembers’ nationalities nor the exact location of the bombing. Mostly, American and French soldiers are stationed in the east.
With the latest fatalities, the number of foreign troops killed in Afghanistan so far during the current year has gone up to 511. In 2010, the deadliest year for international soldiers, ISAF lost 711 personnel in the country.

KUNAR: One officer and a soldier of the Afghan National Army (ANA) were killed by militants in the Manogai district of eastern Kunar province, officials said on Tuesday.
The soldiers were attacked by militants on their way home for Eid in the Leecha Laam area of the district, Maj. Shirin Aqa, an ANA spokesman in the east, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

MAIDAN WARDAK: Two Taliban fighters were killed in an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) airstrike in central Maidan Wardak province, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday night in Chak district, Shahidullah Shahid, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the insurgents intended to fire missiles on Afghan and international troops in the area.
District chief Ismail Wafa confirmed the incident, saying it occurred in the Araban area. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
