US pledges $65m aid to Helmand, Kandahar

US pledges $65m aid to Helmand, Kandahar

LASHKARGAH (PAN sector in Kandahar and Helmand provinces, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Ryan C. Crocker pledged the assistance during a visit to the province on Monday, Helmand Governor Muhammad Gulab Mangal told Pajhwok Afghan News. Crocker visited Nawa district and examined US-funded reconstruction projects there.

He said the money promised by the ambassador would be spent on the supply of improved seeds to farmers, training programmes, cold storages and establishing factories, which would help solve growers’ problems.

The governor called the US assistance as useful in preventing poppy cultivation, saying that 300,000 farmers would be distributed improved seeds and fertilisers.
