New security checkpoints set up in SiagirdBy Farid Tanha Nov 2, 2011 - 17:08
CHARIKAR (PAN): Five security check-posts have been set up to stabilise the Siagird district of central Parwan province, an official said on Wednesday.
The posts were established during search operations in Surma, Kata Sang, Gahwara Gak, Sardashtak and Pul-i-Rangab areas this week, the governors' spokesman said.
Roshna Khalid told Pajhwok Afghan News about 400 Afghan and international Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops took part in the operations.
Hundred of policemen at the district and provincial police headquarters are manning the check-posts, according to the spokeswoman, who acknowledged the insurgency had recently increased in the area.
Previously, governmental employees and people were unable to travel the route for fear of insurgent attacks, Roshna Khalid said. But now the situation has improved.
