Turkish firms offer investment in Afghan mining sector
Turkish companies, engaged in mine extraction in Libya, Iraq, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, are ready to explore copper, gas and gold mines in Afghanistan.
Minister of Mines Waheedullah Shahrani, who is accompanying President Hamid Karzai on his visit to Turkey for a regional summit, told Pajhwok Afghan News in Istanbul the firms had vast experience in the field.
Without naming the Turkish companies, Shahrani said his ministry planned to open bids for two gold and three copper mines on December 6.
Alexander Lebedev, the buyer of UK's Independent Newspaper, on Tuesday met President Hamid Karzai and offered launching an airline in Afghanistan, a presidential spokesman said.
