The narcotics were recovered from a pick-up vehicle in the Taimur Band area on the outskirts of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, on Friday night, provincial police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Two suspects along with a Kalashnikov were arrested in connection with the drugs, Angar said, adding in the meantime a drug smuggler was injured during a clash between police and smugglers. The injured drug smuggler was currently being treated at a hospital.
Angar said the two detainees wanted to smuggle the 400 kg drugs to Behramchi area near the Pakistani border, but their bid was foiled.
The seizure comes during an ongoing crackdown on poppy growers in the province. Police had detained a number of farmers accused of growing poppies.
