QALAT (PAN): Public representatives and government officials have failed to resolve the problems being faced by residents of southern Zabul province.
Provincial council head, Asadullah Nasir, acknowledged promises held out to the people during the election campaign had not been honoured so far.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, he blamed their failure to resolve public problems on insecurity, which prevented them from travelling to most of Zabul districts.
He said they monitored government activities only in areas where the law and order situation was comparatively stable.
Residents complain council members have failed to honour their commitments. “No member of the council has visited our area so far,” claimed Muhammad Hanif, a resident of Mezan district.
A Qalat dweller, Abdullah, said it was the duty of council members to monitor reconstruction works, but they had been unable to play that role.
The nine-member council — six men and three women — is almost two years old. But it could not resolve any of the problems haunting Zabul residents, Abdullah concluded.
