MEHTARLAM (PAN): At least seven civilians were killed when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in eastern Laghman province, officials said on Saturday.
The explosion took place in the Badyabad area on the outskirts of Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, deputy police chief, Maj. Mohammad Daud Barakzai, told Pajhwok Afghan New.
The victims were on their way from Alingar district to Jalalabad, the capital of neighbouring Nangarhar province, when they fell prey to the blast, Barakzai said, without giving an exact figure for casualties.
Faizanullah Patan, the governor's spokesman, said six people were killed. However, witness Bakhtyar said seven people died in the incident. He said the victims included a woman who miscarried as a result of the detonation.
