KABUL): An Afghan karate team finished runners-up after grabbing eight medals in the Euro-Asian Karate Championship held in Turkey November 11-13, an official said on Sunday.

The eight-member Afghan side gained four gold, two silver and as many bronze medals in the three-day competitions that concluded late on Saturday evening in Antalya city of Turkey, said Mahboob Sarwari.

The side included Shuja Agha Hamidi, Sher Ahmad Muradi, Farid Agha Durandish and Wahid Ahmad Joya, all of them got medals, he said. Turkey finished first while the third position went to Denmark, he added.

In 2006, Afghanistan emerged as champions of a similar tournament in Turkey while it finished as runners-up in a 2008 tournament that took place in South Africa.
