FARYAB: Police have found three dead bodies, charred beyond recognition, in northern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
The bodies, including one beheaded, were found dumped in the Khwaja Paitakht area on the outskirts Miamana City on Monday night, police spokesman, Capt. Sayed Masood Yaqubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victims’ identity and the cause of the murder were yet to be known, he said, adding the bodies had been dispatched to a hospital.
The civil hospital chief, Dr. Mohammad Ali Alim, said the bodies had been transferred to the Miamana hospital for forensic analysis.
Samir Enayat, a forensic doctor, said the bodies were charred beyond recognition. Result of the forensic examination would be sent to Kabul, he said.

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Five people were killed in a CIA-operated drone strike in the Pakistan‘s tribal region of North Waziristan, near the Afghan border, on Tuesday, an official said.
A drone fired two missiles on a house at 4am, killing five people and injuring three others in the Kandikhel area on the outskirts of Miranshah, a political administration official, Taslim Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The house was destroyed as a result of the attack, but it was not clear whether the victims were civilians or militants, he said.
However, local journalist Malik Mumtaz said the victims were ordinary local residents. Several drones were hovering over the area after the blitz, causing panic among residents.

ORAKZAI: Sixteen militants were killed and a dozen others injured during an operation by Pakistani troops in the Orakzai tribal region, lying close the Afghanistan border, officials said on Tuesday.
The ground troops backed helicopter gunships pounded militant sanctuaries in many parts of the agency, inflecting heavy casualties on the insurgents, local official Khyal Asghar said.
At least five suspected hideouts were attacked by the Pakistani military on Tuesday, killing 16 suspected militants, he said. At least 12 others were reported to be wounded in the offensive.
A local reporter, Shahid Khan, said there were clashes between the security forces and the insurgents in Kago Kamar, Zakhtan, Khadizi, Alikhel and Shadal Tang areas.
Orakzai is one of the most lawless areas in Pakistan’s northwest tribal region, which is made up of seven districts near the Afghan border.
The area is home to supporters of Pakistani Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud.
Security forces launched a major operation in the agency in March last year after militants fled a sweeping offensive in the nearby tribal district of South Waziristan.

KAPISA: A French soldier was killed and another injured during an insurgent attack in central Kapisa province, a statement from the French Presidential Palace said on Tuesday.
The soldiers were on a patrol in in central Afghanistan on Monday when they came under attack from the insurgents, the statement said.
The injured soldier was being treated, the statement said.
Meanwhile, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) media office in Kabul in a brief statement confirmed the death of a soldier in central Afghanistan.
At least 4, 0000 French soldiers are stationed in Afghanistan. So far 76 of them have been killed.

LOGAR: A man, suspected of several rocket attacks on the Miss Ainak copper mine, has been arrested in central Logar province, an official said on Tuesday.
The suspect identified as Khayal Gul, was arrested from his house near the mine, security official at a military base near the mine, Sayed Abas Sadat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
A machinegun and some ammunition were also recovered from the detainee, he said.
The governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwish, confirmed the arrest, saying the detainee had been involved in disturbing development activities at the copper mine.

NANGARHAR: Thirteen people have been arrested on charges of growing poppy crops and seizing a governmental land in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
The Spinghar district chief, Shukrullah Durrani, said 10 people were arrested while cultivating the banned plants in their farms in the district.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News the farmers had previously agreed not to grow poppy crops.
Another three farmers were detained in the Sapari area of Goshta district late on Monday, the district chief, Sayed Rahman, said. The detainees had been referred to the persecutor’s office, he said
Meanwhile, the governor’s office in a statement said four people had been arrested for grabbing a government land in the Sando area of the outskirts of Jalalabad city.
