WASHINGTON (PAN, has been selected for a prestigious UN award for promoting tolerance and non-violence in the country.
Honaryar along with Khaled Abu Awwad from Palestine will receive UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence at a special ceremony on December 9 in Paris.
Created in 1995 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, with the support of the Indian writer and diplomat Madanjeet Singh, the award is given every two years.
UNESCO said Honaryar would be honoured for her helping women who suffered from domestic abuse, forced marriages and gender discrimination and for her commitment to promote the ideals of human dignity, human rights, mutual respect and tolerance.
Last year, she became the first non-Muslim woman to become a member of the Wolesi Jirga, lower house. The awardees would split the id=”mce_marker”00,000 money between them.
