GARDEZ (PAN): Four inmates from the Garda Sirai district of southeastern Paktia province were released on Monday from the Bagram jail after serving a four months term, an official said.

Arrested during a joint offensive by Afghan and International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF) troops four months ago, the men were freed after being found innocent.

Addressing a ceremony in Gardez, Deputy Governor Abdur Rahman Mangal expressed happiness over their release. The administration and provincial peace committee office are trying for the release other innocent people.

“Behaviour of jail guards has been good but it was too difficult spending time in prison without any crime,” said Khitab Khan, one of the men freed.
