ISLAMABAD (PAN has assured a visiting Afghan delegation of cooperation with efforts at arresting the assassin of former president Prof. Burhanuddin Rabbani, officials said on Friday.
A nine-member delegation, led by National Directorate of Security (NDS) deputy chief Gen. Hesamuddin, won the assurance at meetings with Pakistani officials here, an Afghan diplomat said.
Cultural attaché at the Afghan embassy in Islamabad, Zardasht Shams, told Pajhwok Afghan News the team met several Pakistani officials, including Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
According to a joint statement issued on Thursday, the two sides agreed to work together and Pakistan assured the Afghan delegation of all possible help in bringing Rabbani’s killers to justice.
Different aspects of the investigation came under discussion during Rehman Malik’s meeting with the delegation, a statement from the interior ministry said. Malik showed deep sorrow over the killing of Rabbani.
Afghan Ambassador Muhammad Omar Daudzai, who invited the delegation to dinner on Thursday night, thanked Pakistan for offering cooperation with the investigation.

As an investigation into the assassination continues, the Afghan delegation is looking into the Quetta connection, where a surviving conspirator, Hamidullah Akhunzada, said the plot was hatched.
