KABUL (PAN): About 66 local policemen completed a training course and joined a US-funded force, raising its strength to 300, in the Sayad district of northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Sunday.
The men received basic training in defending their areas for two months training, their trainer from the US military, Cap. John, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
So far about 300 local policemen have received training and each one is paid 8,000 afghanis ($165.769) in monthly salary.
Creation of the force would help improve the security environment in the province, Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati said.
One of the graduates, Mohammad Ayub, said: "We were taught brand new policing techniques that did not know previously."
