Residents of several provinces have different opinions on US military presence

KABUL): Residents of different provinces asked government and people of US to continue their support forAfghanistanafter their withdrawal in 2014.

Some people wanted foreign forces to stay in the country but others did not like their presence and said it would create problems while International Community must help Afghans in economic sector after withdrawal.

First phase of transition process started from central Bamyan province, extended to implement in central Panjsher province, Mehtarlam capital of Laghman province, Lashkargah capital of Helmand province, Mazar-i-Sharif capital ofBalkhprovince,Heratcity and all overKabulprovince excluding eastern Sarubi district. It will be completed by 2014 with handing over of security of whole country to Afghans forces.

“We ask people of US to put pressure on their government, to stop killing of innocent people inAfghanistan,” Burhan-ud-Din, resident of provincial capital Aibak city ofSamanganprovince told Pajhwok Afghan News and demanded not to use Afghan land against other counties.

Muhammad Amin Azizi, working Department of Information and Culture of Balkh province emphasized on US assistance and said, “US should not leave us alone after 2014 as she had done after the war withUSSR.”

However, Muhammad Saleem from Paktia province did not agree and said, “Foreign troops had not come to our country to help us but to destroy it.”

He asked US to leaveAfghanistanand let Afghans to build the country themselves.

Gran, a local of Aibak city believed, Afghans could provide better security in their country.

“I want to tell US, our own army is enough strong by now to secure the country and foreign forces should withdraw as they are not effective,” he said.

Arzu Noorzad, resident of provincial capital Faiz Abad city ofBadakhshanprovince said presence of foreign troops had a positive impact over the country.

“US should not leave soon as Afghan security forces are unable to bring peace in the country without their help,” she commented and sought long term help of US and international community.

Shah Arab Darwishi, from Khwahan district of Badakhshan province said improvement was impossible without peace in the country and US must helpAfghanistanin bringing peace and security.

They would witness civil war and internal conflicts in the country if foreign forces withdrew, he said.

Farid Ihsas from of Farah province said, “I want US to fulfill her promises, such as support for democracy, freedom of speech, women’s rights and human rights which were made by them.”  

He demanded of US Congress to put pressure on their government to stop two faced policy inAfghanistan.

Muhammad Yaqub Maftoon, a freelance reporter from the province saidUSshould helpAfghanistanin civil sector and must be committed to agreements made.

If International Community especially US leftAfghanistan, they would experience the situation of 1990s in the country again, he said.

According to Farzana Qayumi, a journalist from Farah province, US should not have a deceitful policy for the county but in fact they should work honestly there.

US should implement important and basic projects inAfghanistanand there must be transparency in it.

Karima, a government employee in Faryab province is doubtful aboutUSpresence inAfghanistan.

“United Nations must give us a guarantee thatUSpresence would have no impact over freedom ofAfghanistan,” she said.

Haji Abdul Hakim, a shopkeeper in provincial capital Maimna city ofFaryabprovince said, “I am agreed withUSpresence but they must know their limits, not to kill innocent people.”

“My business has grown afterUSpresence but disappointment among people is growing day by day which must be stopped,” he said.

“US should learn a lesson from past experiences inAfghanistanand they should not offend Afghans, otherwise they will be ashamed like Russians and English,” he added.

Naqibullah, resident of capital Zaranj city ofNimrozprovince saidUSshould respect religion and culture of Afghans.

According to Eng. Habibullah from Nimroz province, they wanted US to help Afghans in economic and military fields for a long term otherwise their neighbors would again interfere in the country.

Muhammad Usman, resident of Heart province demanded of theUSto help Afghans in bringing peace and stability for progress as it was promised and they must kept that promise.

Maryam Karimi, a student at Political Science Faculty inHeratprovince saidUSshould work for building infrastructure of their country.

She believedUSpresence would have a positive impact over economical and security situation inAfghanistan.

Khan Muhammad, a student atTeacherTrainingCollegein Ghor province emphasized on military presence of US in the country and said US should not leaveAfghanistansoon.

He wanted US to helpAfghanistanin education, military and economic sectors.

Farida, principle ofSultanSazaiHigh Schoolin the province said, “US must not leaveAfghanistansoon because I know Taliban would not join any peace process.”

US should properly train and equip Afghan security forces until they had ability to secure the country themselves, she said.
