KABUL): A group of people, some carrying guns, on Monday tried to storm a private television channel’s office in Kabul, officials and witnesses said.

The incident took place at around 8:30pm when the Norin TV aired a religious programme, said a news section official, Noor Zada.

He added the crowd wanted to thrash participants of the programme, but they were not allowed to enter the office by security guards. The men dispersed when police reached the scene.

The television station is situated in the third street of the Mirwais Maidan area in Kota Sangi.

Resident Idris Ahmad said he heard gunshots. “When I reached the street, I saw people standing in front of the TV office.” He said windowpanes of the building were broken and a guard room damaged.

The Interior Ministry spokesman, Siddiq Siddiqui, confirmed the incident, saying police had launched an investigation.
