Wolesi Jirga rises for winter recess on Tuesday
KABUL (PAN): The Wolesi Jirga, lower house of Parliament, on Monday announced a 45-day winter recess, beginning tomorrow.
The second secretary said the house had approved 36 bills, seven laws and 16 international agreements this year.
Under the Constitution, the national assembly convenes two general sessions each year.
Its working period is nine months a year. When necessary, it can extend the period.
Second Secretary Ahmad Farhad Azimi read out a report about Parliament's performance during the year. The report said the Wolesi Jirga had held 130 sessions.
The parliamentary elections took place on Sept. 18, 2010 and the results were announced on Nov. 24, 2010. President Hamid Karzai inaugurated the new Parliament on January 26.
