KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Five people were wounded in a huge bomb explosion in the capital of southern Kandahar province on Tuesday, an official and eyewitness said.

The explosives attached to a motorbike went off in the Charso Square in the third police station of Kandahar City at about 12:45pm, the governor’s spokesman said.

Zalmay Ayubi told Pajhwok Afghan News the wounded included two policemen and three civilians. He gave no further details of the attack.

The explosives had been placed close to a police checkpoint in the area, said Izatullah, a witness who saw flumes of smoke after the blast.

A doctor at the Mirwais Civil Hospital, who did not want to be named, confirmed receiving five wounded people. He did not comment on the condition of the injured.
