KABUL (PAN): The World Bank on Thursday pledged $ 27.7 million in aid to the Energy and Water Ministry through the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
An agreement to the effect was signed in Kabul between FAO and the ministry, the UN agency deputy chief for Afghanistan, Eng. Mohammad Aqa, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the assistance would be spent on constructing two small dams, capacity building of the ministry employees and providing weather forecast services and equipment over the next six years.
As part of the agreement, the official said up to 150,000 acres of land would come under irrigation, benefitting about 230,000 families.
