ASADABAD (PAN): A district police chief was among six people killed in a suicide bombing in the eastern province of Kunar on Friday, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place when the bomber detonated his suicide vest at 2pm outside a mosque after Friday prayer in Ghaziabad district.
Abdul Wahid, the Ghaziabad district head, told Pajhwok Afghan News the town’s police chief and two policemen were killed in the attack that left another eight people wounded.
A security official said on condition of anonymity the police chief, Mohammad Ismail, a National Directorate of Security (NDS) worker, two policemen and as many civilians were killed.
Only one body and two wounded people were evacuated to the Asadabad Civil Hospital, said a doctor on duty, who did not want to be named.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the bombing and said it was not a suicide attack. Six security personnel, including Ismail, were killed in the blast, he added.
