PUL-I-ALAM/ZARANJ (PAN): At least 12 Taliban fighters were detained during a joint operation by Afghan and international forces in central Logar province, officials said on Saturday.
The operation was conducted late on Friday night in Charkh district, Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the detainees included rebel commanders, but stopped short of identifying them.
Din Mohammad Darwesh, the governor's spokesman, confirmed the operation, saying some weapons and fake passports had also been seized.
Elsewhere in the country, seven people were held on the charge of cooperating with the Taliban in Khashrod district of Nimroz province.
Mohammad Hasham Noori, the district chief, said the individuals were detained along with weapons and explosives in the Qala-i-Naw area late on Friday.
However, Mohammad Essa, an resident, said the detainees were civilians and had no link with any group.
