ISLAMABAD (APP): The Pakistani nation, stressing respect for its sovereignty, wanted new terms of engagement with the United States of America, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Thursday.

His government would seek guarantees from the US to respect Pakistan‘s sovereignty, Gilani told journalists after a cabinet meeting in Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

While defending the closure of a key ISAF supply line after cross-border attacks on army posts in the Mohmand tribal region, Gilani said the decision reflected national and parliamentary consensus.

“Enough is enough. We need a guarantee that such a unilateral action will not recur in the future,” remarked the prime minister, flanked by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar and Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti.

Pakistan always desired stability, progress and sovereignty of Afghanistan, he said, adding: “We will live together forever while aliens will have to leave the region one day.” Terrorism was common enemy of the neighbours, he concluded.
