Mission interesting but difficult: UNAMA chief
KABUL (PAN): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative and United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) head, Staffan de Mistura, said that his two-year mission was difficult, but interesting.
De Mistura said during a farewell call on the President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday evening: "I should say that my two-year mission in Afghanistan was interesting for me, although it was difficult at times."
A statement from the Presidential Palace said on Wednesday Karzai thanked de Mistura for his services to Afghanistan and wished him success in future undertakings.
The United Nations has named former Slovak foreign minister Jan Kubis as new envoy to Afghanistan. He is expected to take charge at the beginning of 2012.
