BADGHIS: Two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing in northwestern Badghis province, an official said on Thursday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a National Directorate of Security official told Pajhwok Afghan News a home-made bomb struck the ANA vehicle in Khak Palak area of Muqur district, killing two troops onboard and destroying the vehicle.

Saduddin, a resident, confirmed two ANA troops were killed in the blast.

GHAZNI: Three mine planters were killed in an airstrike by coalition troops in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Thursday.

The men were planting mines on a road in the Sado Qala area of Da Yak district when they were targeted by the international soldiers late on Wednesday, Hazrat Omar Ghaznavi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, confirmed the death of two fighters in the airstrike.

HERAT: An explosive-rigged motorcycle was found and defused by security forces in the Ghoryan district of western Herat province, an official said on Thursday.

The explosives were precisely defused on Thursday afternoon by National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials, Arab Shah, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News. 

Elsewhere in the province, police gunned down an illegal armed man and detained another a second and seized two weapons from them, police spokesman Noor Khan Nikzad said.

KABUL, the alliance said on Thursday.

The soldier was killed on Wednesday in an insurgent attack, an ISAF statement said, without revealing the servicemember’s nationality or the exact location.

Mostly, US, British and Canadian soldiers are deployed to the restive south — the heartland of the Taliban insurgency.

With the latest fatality, the death toll for foreign forces in Afghanistan has increased to 549, including 410 American servicemembers. Last year, 711 international soldiers were killed in the country.

BADAKHSHAN: Four insurgents were killed and 31 others, including a commander, were detained during an ongoing operation to rescue 11 abducted policemen in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Thursday.

The operation that involved Afghan and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops was carried out in the Yakh Shera area of Orduj district after a Dec. 6 rebel attack on police, an official said.

Two policemen were killed and nearly a dozen others were seized when the Taliban ambushed their patrol in the area, provincial police chief said.

Gen. Abdul Sabor Nasrati told Pajhwok Afghan News six policemen were injured in the attack and their eight vehicles were set on fire.

The police chief said the 11 abducted police officials had been rescued and four insurgents were killed and 31 others, including a commander identified as Mullah Dad Khuda also known as Mullah Burjan, were captured alive.

Governor Shah Waliullah said the Taliban had repeatedly been invited for reconciliation, but they rejected the peace talks, thus the operation was carried out against them.

He said some of the detainees were involved in killing and abducting security personnel and setting on fire their vehicles.

NANGARHAR: Four armed militants were arrested during a joint operation in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Thursday.

The operation was carried out on Wednesday night, the ISAF media office in the east said in a statement.  

The Batikot district chief Israrullah Qarizada the predawn operation was conducted on a house in Gondiani village.

He said the detainees were local residents and some weapons were also recovered from them.

PAKTIA: Five tonnes of hashish were seized during a joint Afghan and foreign troops operation in the Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Thursday.

The operation was conducted in Sorkai area, where the narcotics were seized from a house, police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Ghafar Sapai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Six people were detained in connection with the drugs, he said, adding the hashish had been brought from other provinces for smuggling into Pakistan.
