KABUL (PAN): A number of developments projects, worth a million US dollars, in the areas of agriculture, health and education would be carried out in Sarobi district of central Kabul province, an official said on Wednesday.

The French-funded projects included buildings for schools, equipment for the Sarobi hospital, besides new facilities, and the construction of centres for distribution of improved quality wheat seeds and cold storages, said the governor's spokesman, Wasiullah Miankhel.

Construction firms would be selected through an open bidding process under the supervision of the Kabul development committee, he said, adding the schemes would have a two-month timescale.

Miankhel also said the security transition from foreign to Afghan forces was being implemented in Sarobi, which borders Logar and the insecure Tagab and Nijrab districts of Kapisa province.

"Work on various infrastructure development projects is ongoing in 14 districts in collaboration with the departments concerned," Governor Ahmadullah Alizai told a meeting of the development committees.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from local and foreign organizations, district chiefs and other officials.
