KHOST CITY (PAN fighters, including a commander, on Wednesday joined the peace process, initiated by the Afghan government, in Khost and Laghman provinces.
Nine militants, who had been active in Tani district of Khost, joined the process, the governor’s house said in a statement. It said the surrendering men had promised to help the government in reconstruction and security sectors.
Meanwhile, a local Taliban commander joined the reconciliation programme in Laghman province, an official said.
Identified as Hafta Gul, the rebel leader was active in Daulat Shah district, said a local police commander for Daulat Shah and Alishang districts, Haji Noorullah, said.
“I was influenced by militants in Pakistan to join the militancy,” Hafta Gul told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said he would attempt to convince his ex-comrade into joining the peace process and surrendering arms.
