TIRINKOT (PAN): Uruzgan governor on Wednesday asked residents to help the government strengthen security in the central province.

He made the appeal at a gathering under the name of Peace and Good governance held at the Governor’s House. District chiefs, tribal elders, police chiefs and youths attended the gathering.

Governor Mohammad Omar Shirzad said the security situation in the province had improved compared to previous years. He urged people to cooperate with security forces to further improve the situation.

“The government alone is unable to resolve all problems without the cooperation of people,” he remarked, asking residents to help prevent insurgent activities and protect newly completed projects.

Shirzad also asked armed opposition groups to renounce insurgency and join the peace process initiated by the government.

Resident Daro Khan said the gathering as a step forward toward reducing the gap between the government and people.

Another participant, Ismail, said the government could convince militants into joining the peace process through such gatherings.
