Welfare projects executed in Baghlan

AIBAK (PAN): More than 8,000 families benefited from the 44 welfare projects completed under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) in the northern province of Baghlan, officials said on Thursday.

The projects, costing $101,446 (49, 80000 afghanis), were funded by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) and took one year to be completed in the Roy Doab district, director of rural rehabilitation and development department, said.

Eng. Mohammad Aman Amin told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects included 10 micro hydro electric powers, graveling of six roads, 10 courses of carpet weaving, tailoring and computer learning, construction of seven water reservoirs, three projects of water supply pipelines, and construction of as many irrigation canals.

At least 8,200 families in the 34 villages of the Roy Doab district benefited from the projects, administrative head of the town, Azizullah, said.

Abdul Ahad, 31, a resident of the district was happy with the implementation of the projects; saying their main problem was lack of electricity, but now their lightening problem was solved.

Since the inception of NSP in 2003, nearly 1420 development schemes have been implemented at a total cost of 978 million afs in 1,000 villages of the province.
