ZARANJ (PAN): Twenty midwives were awarded certificates on completing a two years training programme in southwestern Nimroz province on Saturday, an official said.
The midwives would be sent to the Nimroz Civil Hospital and clinics in districts and villages, Public Health Director Noor Ahmad Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Health centres in the province lacked midwives, the director said, promising more training programmes. Sherzad continued they could also train midwives for health centres in neighbouring provinces.
Graduation of the first batch of midwives in Nimroz was an effective step toward providing better services to mothers and children in remote area, said Shakiba, the trainer.
Palwasha, one of the midwives, said she was happy over completing the training. "It feels so good that I can serve women in remote villages of the province,"
