By Ortaq Dec 24, 2011 - 16:47MAIMANA (PAN): The first- ever radio station, aimed at airing health-related programmes, started operating in northern Faryab province on Saturday.
Formally inaugurated on Saturday, the Norwegian-funded radio would broadcast programmes for 15 days on a trial basis, the public health director said.
Dr. Abdul Wali Halim told Pajhwok Afghan News the state-run radio broadcasts would be focused on health-related issues, including messages and tutorials.
"This station is more beneficial than others, which only air music," said Mohammad Nasim, a resident of Maimana.
Currently there are four radio stations -- Gurbat, Tamana, Qoyash and Turkistan, operating in the province.
