KABUL CITY (PAN): Afghanistan won the South Asian Kurash (a type of oil or grease wrestling) Championship by bagging a dozen medals, an official said on Monday.
Eight south Asian countries participated in the championship that began on December 23 and ended late on Sunday night in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.
Afghanistan Kurash Federation's deputy chief, Baba Jan Tahsili, told Pajhwok Afghan News the national team earned 11 gold medals and a silver to clinch the title.
He said India and Nepal respectively finished second and third. The Afghan squad was comprised of nine wrestlers, two coaches and a referee.
