Rebels held with tonnes of explosives in Zabul

QALAT (PAN) operatives with more than three tonnes of explosives on Monday, an official said.

The explosives packed in eight sacks were recovered from a vehicle during an NDS operation in the Bakarzai area Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province.

Deputy Governor Muhammad Jan Rasulyar told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants wanted to use the material in terrorist attacks in the city. He gave no further details.

Separately, six people were injured in a clash in the Babagak area of the city late on Sunday night. The dispute between villagers turned violent, resulting in injuries.

An official at the Qalat Civil Hospital said on condition of anonymity six injured were brought to hospital last night. Two of the seriously injured were referred to Kandahar for treatment, he added.
