SHIBERGHAN (PAN): Egg-laying hens were distributed to nearly 120 poor women in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province, an official said on Tuesday.
The distribution process was conducted in eight-villages of the district, an official of the German Agro Action Organisation, Husain Saeedi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said 15 deserving families had been identified in each village, with every woman receiving 15 egg-laying hens. The recipients have already been trained on taking care of the chickens.
According to Saeedi, each of the hens laid 280 eggs a year, compared to 120 laid by a common hen.
"I would focus more on taking good care of the hens," said a widow recipient, Rahat, who has eight daughters and ekes out a living by washing people's clothes.
