Instability is a big issue of the province: Zabul provincial council
QALAT (PAN): The provincial council in southern Zabul province was unable to pay attention to problems of people and monitor construction project due to insecurity, an official said.
The council has nine seats, including three allocated seats for females.
They could not serve people better as they had promised during elections campaign, Asadullah Nasir, deputy director of the provincial council told Pajhwok Afghan News.
"Problem of law and order is a big obstacle to our work and we cannot visit districts to discuss people about the problems they are facing there, he said, adding they had visited those areas where there was no security problem while they had also monitored the construction projects and evaluated performance of local government administrations.
He claimed they had worked a lot in education sector and had reopened dozens of schools which were closed before that.
However, some of residents from the province said the council had not fulfilled promises, they had made to people.
No member of the council had bothered to visit their district so far, to hear our problems and take measures for its solution, Muhammad Hanif, resident of Mezan district of the province said.
“We have the right to ask our elected representatives for solving our problems,” he said and added, despite insecurity, they had problems in education, health, reconstruction and agriculture sectors which need proper attention.
Abdullah, another resident of the provincial capital city said the council was not monitoring and evaluating performance of local government departments and reconstruction project which was the main responsibility of the council.
