LASHKARGAH (PAN): At least 10 policemen were killed and seven others injured when their vehicle struck a roadside bomb in southern Helmand province, officials said on Thursday.
The massive explosion took place at around 11:30am in the Zarghoon area of Nad Ali district, Daud Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the vehicle of local policemen hit the roadside landmine while returning from a training centre. Since the overall security environment in the district was good, the militants planted the bomb on the route used by the security personnel, Ahmadi added.
Police officer Col. Mohammad Ismail Hotak said the victims were newly trained policemen, who were yet to be deployed to any area.
As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
