Pakistan yet to resolve stranded Afghan vehicles issue

KABUL is yet to resolve the issue of stranded Afghan traders’ vehicles in the neighbouring country, an official said on Tuesday.

On November 27, Islamabad closed a key supply line for Afghanistan forces in Mohmand tribal region. Additionally, Pakistan had also stopped 700 vehicles carrying freezers, eggs and meat at different locations from Karachi to Peshawar over the past few weeks.

“I met the Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday and discussed with him the the issue,” Afghan Minister of Commerce and industries, Anwar-ul- Haq Ahadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News opver the telephone.

Malik had assured efforts at resolving the problem, Ahadi said, adding he was not sure when the problem would be resolved, but they were trying to find a solution to it.

“Vice President Marshal Muhammad Qaseem Fahim has also asked the Chief of Staff to raise the issue with Pakistani military officials,” he said.

Deputy Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) director, Jan Khan Alokozay, said it was a serious issue and the Afghan government should take concerte measures to resolve it as soon as possible. He said losses incurred by Afghan traders increased with each passing day.
