Britons among 4 security firm’s employees detained

KABUL): The Interior Ministry said Thursday it would dissolve a private security firm after its four employees, including two Britons, were arrested in Kabul with unregistered AK-47 assault rifles.

The four arrested men, —two Britons and two Afghans – could not provide documentation for the ammunition and weapons, and most of the guns had their serial numbers removed, he ministry spokesman, Sediq Sediqqi, told a news conference in Kabul.

He said police will be calling on the head of the company soon to pay all the dues the firm owes to the Afghan government.

He said the security firm could not operate after its employees were arrested with unregistered guns east of the capital, where several foreign military bases are located.

In August 2010, President Hamid Karzai said he wanted private security firms – with the exception of firms working inside compounds used by embassies – to close by the end of that year. The deadline was later pushed back to March 2012.
