KABUL (PAN): Seventy-two insurgents joined the peace process in southern Kandahar and eastern Nangarhar and Laghman provinces, the spy service office said on Sunday.
Headed by commander Qudratullah, a 50-member rebel group joined the reconciliation drive in Kandahar, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.
Another 20 militants, led by Commander Malik Asil, surrendered in Nangarhar. The fighters also turned in their weapons to the authorities, the statement added.
Two other guerrillas, Maulvi Shamsuddin and Maulvi Haftagul, who remained active in Daulat Shah and Shah Wali Kot districts of Laghman, also shunned the insurgency.
