'Mentally retarded' woman commits suicide
KUNDUZ CITY (PAN): A woman shot herself dead with her husband's illegal gun in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Wednesday.
Shah Jehan committed suicide on Tuesday night in the Sai Darak area of the provincial capital, Kunduz City, Col. Abdul Ghafar, the crime branch chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The 35-year-old, having no family problem, was a mental patient, he said, adding the woman has married Hassan Chopan 15 years ago. She leaves behind two sons and as many daughters.
Col. Abdul Ghaffar said Chopan had been arrested for unlawfully keeping the gun in his house.
"I am a storeowner and had a prosperous life with my wife," Chopan said, expressing unawareness about the reason behind his wife's suicide.
Ali Mohammad, a resident, said: "We have family relations with Chopan. There has been no problem between the couple, but Shah Jehan would verbally clash with her in-laws during her last days."
But Women's Affairs Director Nadira Giya suspected a conspiracy behind Jehan's suicide. "There must be some reasons, which need to be determined because most women and girls commit suicide due to domestic violence."
