KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Two civilians were killed and three others wounded in two roadside bomb blasts in the southern province of Kandahar, an official said on Thursday.
The blasts took place in Takhtapul and Shah Walikut districts late on Wednesday, the governor’s spokesman, Zalmay Ayubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the first blast in occurred in Kundalan village of Shah Walikot, killing two and injuring as many. The second blast on a tractor wounded the driver.
Separately, the Afghan National Army said a top Taliban commander was detained along with eight fighters during an operation in Panjwai district of the province.
As a result of a brief clash during the operation, the soldiers recovered some Kalashnikovs, pistols and a machine gun from the militants.
According to the gubernatorial spokesman, two suspects were detained with four bombs, explosives and safety fuses in the Zangabad area of the district. A top militant commander, Akhtar Mohammad, was netted in Zherai district.
