SHIBERGHAN (PAN): A gas well, having the capacity to produce 5,000 cubic metres of gas in 24 hours, was inaugurated in northern Jawzjan province, officials said on Sunday.

Gas supply from the well would run a chemical fertiliser factory in neighbouring Balkh province, said the Afghan Gas Enterprise head, Eng. Abdul Hameed.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We have decided to reconstruct the whole gas distribution system in Shiberghan, the provincial capital.”

Resident Abdul Ghani said: “Initially, we had enough gas supplies for two years ago, but now there is load shedding in the winter” The enterprise could not supply the gas equally across the city, he complained.

Governor Muhammad Alam Syee said they had requested the Ministry of Mines to resolve the gas problem. The ministry had promised to resolve people’s problems, he added.

There are 36 gas wells in the province. Thirty of them are providing gas to factories and six to residents.
