LASHKARGAH (PAN): The responsibility of the central jail in southern Helmand province was on Monday transferred to the Ministry of Interior from the Ministry of Justice, officials said.
The transfer came at a special ceremony attended by Governor Gulab Mangal, the provincial police chief and other local government officials in Lashkargah.
Speaking on the occasion, the 707th police zone commander, Maj. Gen. Asmatullah Daulatzai, said all affairs of the central jail would be handled by police.
He added they would try their best to run jail affairs in a better and effective way, claiming police had the ability to discharge the responsibility in a befitting manner. "Efforts will be made to provide all possible facilities to inmates."
