KABUL commander was killed in a combined Afghan and coalition operation in the Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province on Friday.
The International Security and Assistance Forces (ISAF) identified the militant leader as Khetab Gul, who was blamed for a recent suicide car bombing and making of roadside bombs.
Gul planned attacks and distributed bomb-making materials in the province, a statement from the NATO-led force said, adding two of the commander’s associates were also killed.
The security forces also confiscated several firearms during the operation.
Mullah Jan Shinwari, a former member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation was carried out in the Bandar area of the district, near Pakistani border.
He confirmed the killing of three people during the raid. However, Shinwari did not know whether or not the men had any ties to Taliban.
