KABUL): Participants of a two-day seminar in Kabul on Saturday floated a number of suggestions for improvement in the situation of children in the country, where 6.5 million minors are living in vulnerable conditions.

The seminar was jointly arranged by the Comprehensive Perl Archive (CPAN), the United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF), a child rights protection committee and other organisations.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Social, Martyr and Disabled Affairs Ustad Wasil Noor Momand said the suggestions included providing work opportunities for jobless children, the creation of an office to coordinate with vulnerable children and the establishment of a fund.

The proposed office would help refer cases of vulnerable children to the departments concerned for prosecution, he said.

The recommendations stressed efforts for next five years at resolving problems like hard labour, forced marriages, lack of access to education, physical and sexual abuse, run away incidents, abduction and trafficking of children, Momand said.

Of the 6.5 million vulnerable to harsh living conditions across the country, 2.5 million are covered by the Child Rights Information Network (CRIN).
