KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Saturday opened the 16th term of Afghan Parliament, which entered its second year on Saturday.
A ceremony marking the Wolesi Jirga. Then the Afghan national anthem was played.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi welcomed President Hamid Karzai and other guests during his address. He hoped the second year of Parliament would be devoted to resolving Afghans’ problems.
Ibrahimi said the lower house faced several challenges in the past year when some of its members were assassinated by terrorists. Lawmakers would do their bit to pass public-interest laws during the second legislative year, he promised.
