QALAT (PAN): The ongoing heavy snowfall has closed the roads linking districts with Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province, officials said on Sunday.
Residents were grappling with a whole host of problems in the wake of closure of roads, the governor’s spokesman, Sharif Nasiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the governor’s office had ordered security personnel not to allow vehicles without chained tyres and heaters to ply the Shahr-i-Safa-Shah Joi highway.
Nasiri added the provincial authorities could distribute aid to 120 families in the emergency situation. People’s problems would worsen if donor agencies did not take immediate action, he warned.
Mohammad Sadique, the Shah Joyee district chief, said three trucks turned turtle on the Qalat-Shah Joi highway, but the passengers escape unhurt.
