PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Ten students and a teacher of a religious school were injured in a blast in the northern province of Baghlan, officials said on Sunday.

The explosion took place inside a seminary in the Surkh Kotal area of Dahn-i-Ghori district late on Saturday night, a provincial police spokesman said.

1st Lt. Mohammad Asif told Pajhwok Afghan News the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.

Six of the injured were taken to provincial hospital and five others were under treatment at the district clinic, the surgical ward head at the Baghlan Civil Hospital said.

Dr. Mirwais Hotak added three of the victims, including a teacher, Maulvi Karim, were in critical condition.

An intelligence officer said on condition of anonymity the blast could have been caused by a bomb. However, students rejected the view as wrong.

“A gas cylinder had frozen and we put it on the heater in our room. All of a sudden, the cylinder exploded,” said one of the victims, Shah Wali.
