FAIZABAD (PAN): (PAN): Eight people, including a woman and two children, were killed and two others injured in avalanches triggered by heavy snowfall in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Monday.
An avalanche in the Barikab Pass killed three men, two children, a woman and her baby late on Sunday night, Abdul Maroof Rasekh, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the victims were transferring two pregnant women to the Badakhshan Civil Hospital. One of the women was rescued by area people, but the spokesman gave no details of her condition.
Elsewhere, two people were killed and a third wounded as a result of an avalanche in the Yaftal Bala area on the outskirts Faizabad, Deputy Governor Saifur Rahman said.
Abdul Basir Himmat, the Red Crescent Society (RCS) head, confirmed the incidents, saying they were unable to assist the vulnerable people due to harsh weather conditions.
