Journalist training institute opens in Kabul

KABUL): The first-ever professional and academic training institute for media people was inaugurated in Kabul on Sunday, officials said.

The National Association for Interpretation (NAI) chief executive, Abdul Mujeeb Khilwatgar, called the facility a unique one on national level to train individuals in the field of journalism.

He said the institute was established in line with recommendations from media outlets and international experts to provide studies in areas of radio and television reporting and website development.  

The facility would employ standard training methods, he said, adding the institute would start offering services next solar year. Aspirants have to go through an entry test for a two-year training programme, in line with international standards.

Media Watch Director Sadiqullah Tawhidi said the institute was funded by the United States Agency for International Development. He added the facility was needed to ensure professionalism in journalism.

A USAID’s better future. The USAID had supported media in Afghanistan since 2002, she concluded.
