Later, at a joint conference with Wahidi, Kubis, who took over the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) from Swedish diplomat Staffan de Mistura earlier this year, said the UN had always been in favour of peace talks with the anti-government fighters.

Speaking on the occasion, the Kunar governor called Kubis’s visit as fruitful, saying the security situation in his province had improved and the security forces were well-equipped.

He also asked Kubis to convince the World Bank into launching work on hydroelectric dams in Kunar.
