Infighting leaves militant dead in BadakhshanBy Gul Mohammad Tanha Feb 11, 2012 - 17:45
FAIZABAD (PAN): A local Taliban commander killed one of his fighters and held captive three others on the suspicion of spying for the government in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Ordowj district, where the rebel commander, Qari Shamsuddin, shot dead a fighter and held hostage three others, a security official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
The unrest occurred when Shamsuddin got suspicious of the fighters of cooperating with the government.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Sabor Nasrati, the provincial police chief, confirmed the incident, but stopped short of giving details.
Meanwhile, a fighter loyal to Shamsuddin, whishing anonymity, confirmed the death of a fighter, saying one of the detainees hands were cut off by Shamsuddin.
